Keep Your Guard Up

Xu Wu is an exceptionally agile boss in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its unpredictable movements can make the fight frustrating, especially due to its unique shape. Similar to Nu Udra, Xu Wu's black skin makes it challenging to distinguish its front from its back. Be prepared to handle its multiple arms, and stay vigilant as it can slip into walls and vanish temporarily. It often reappears on the ceiling, attempting to drop down on you. This behavior is confined to its nest, so exercise extra caution when battling in this location.

Use Ice Attacks

In Monster Hunter Wilds, Xu Wu is particularly vulnerable to the Ice element. Utilize Ice ammo if you're a ranged fighter, or equip melee weapons with gear that can deal elemental damage. Enhance your gear with a Frost Jewel decoration to boost your Ice Attack skill. Carrying a Frost Pod is advisable as it can inflict minor Ice damage effectively.

Avoid the Grab Attack

Xu Wu employs various tactics, including tentacle attacks and diving maneuvers, but its grab attack is especially dangerous. If caught, you'll be unable to use your regular weapons. You have roughly two seconds to break free, and using your slinger, particularly with Frost Pods, can help you escape quickly.

Attack Xu Wu’s Mouth

The monster's mouth is its most vulnerable spot, though it's hidden beneath its body. You'll mostly see it when Xu Wu dives at you. A well-timed, powerful attack here can cause significant damage and potentially break its mouth, rewarding you with Xu Wu's fang. If the mouth is out of reach, target the head, which is highly susceptible to blunt, cut, and ammo damage.

Use Poison

Xu Wu has a notable weakness to Poison, making it an effective status ailment to use against it. A bow with Poison Coating can be particularly useful. While other status ailments can be employed, Sleep is less effective against this monster.

Once you've reduced Xu Wu's health to 20 percent, you can attempt to capture it. Use a Pitfall Trap or a Shock Trap, and consider throwing meat as bait or using yourself as a lure. Quickly shoot a tranquilizer at Xu Wu to prevent it from escaping, as you only have a brief window before it can break free.

That's all you need to know about hunting and capturing Xu Wu in Monster Hunter Wilds. Remember, its agility demands constant attention to your stamina bar.
