Kai

Kai is one of the first Companions you'll meet in *Avowed*. While you can team up with two characters during the tutorial, Kai is the first official Companion to join your party. You'll encounter him early in the game at the port in Dawnshore, near Paradis. Kai will approach you directly on the dock, and together, you'll set out to find the Ambassador and the Cleric. He remains part of your party until you recruit three Companions, at which point you can swap him out at a Party Camp if you choose.

In *Avowed*, Kai is characterized as a fierce ex-mercenary with a softer side. In combat, he serves as a tank, capable of both sustaining and dealing significant damage. His fire abilities are particularly useful for clearing obstructions like cobwebs and roots, helping you uncover hidden pathways and valuable loot.

Kai's upgradable abilities include:

Marius

Marius is the second Companion you'll encounter in *Avowed*. With a history tied to Kai, you'll find him in Dawnshore at a bar. You can choose to help him either through dialogue or by assisting in combat against some NPCs.

As an expert hunter and tracker, Marius brings these skills to the forefront in both his personality and gameplay. His Hunter Sense ability aids in locating loot and crafting materials across the Living Lands. In combat, Marius uses a combination of bow and arrow and daggers, and can even manipulate nature to trap enemies with Roots.

Marius's upgradable abilities are:

• Binding Roots, Active: Marius Roots an enemy in place for 8 seconds.
• Heart Seeker, Active: Marius takes aim and fires a piercing shot that always hits its target and will pass through any obstacle in its path.
• Shadow Step, Active: Marius vanishes into a cloud of smoke, reappearing near an enemy to slash them with his daggers, repeating this action up to 3 times.
• Wounding Shots, Passive: Marius’ attacks deal bleed accumulation.

Giatta

Giatta joins your party later in the main quest, in the Emerald Stair Region at the Fior settlement. As an animancer, she practices a controversial form of magic in the Living Lands.

In combat, she serves as a support character, focusing on healing, shielding, and buffing allies rather than dealing direct damage. Her unique ability, Spectral Jolt, powers Essence Generators, which can unlock hidden pathways for exploration and loot.

Giatta's upgradable abilities include:

• Purification, Active: Giatta calls forth a wave of energy that heals all allies by 25% of their maximum health.
• Barrier, Active: Giatta gives all her allies a shield that provides temporary health for 20 seconds.
