The Monkey Sets Theatrical and Streaming Dates

Mar 17,26

Following the massive success of Longlegs, writer/director Oz Perkins is back with another chilling adaptation from the world of Stephen King. The Monkey features Theo James as twin brothers tormented by a sinister, cymbal-banging monkey toy. The creepy chaos also pulls in Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings, Yellowjackets), and Adam Scott (Severance).

In his IGN review, critic Tom Jorgensen hails The Monkey as "one of the best horror-comedies (and Stephen King adaptations) in recent memory, exploding off the screen with both gory kills and big laughs." That certainly sounds like a genuine horror-comedy.

The Monkey Streaming Release Date

The Monkey is slated to stream on Hulu, not on Netflix or Max. The film is distributed by Neon, which has an output deal with Hulu granting the platform rights to its theatrical releases.

Unlike the recent wave of movies going straight to streaming, Neon's independent titles typically take a considerable time to arrive on the service. For instance, Oz Perkins's previous film, Longlegs, premiered in theaters on July 12, 2024, and only became available on Hulu around February 14, 2025—a gap of roughly seven months.

Although you may have to wait several months for The Monkey to stream on Hulu, the new Oz Perkins film should be available for digital rental or purchase on platforms like Prime Video by early May.
