Monster Hunter Wilds' New Character Customization System Sparks Controversy

Capcom's latest title, Monster Hunter Wilds, features a new character customization system allowing players to alter their hunter and Palico appearances. While the initial edit is free, subsequent adjustments require purchasing Character Edit Vouchers. These vouchers are sold in packs of three for $6, or a combined pack for both characters for $10. This means players are limited to changing hairstyles, eyebrow color, makeup, and clothing without purchasing vouchers; core facial features remain unchangeable.

This monetization method was not revealed prior to the game's launch and was only announced last week through Capcom's social media. Despite the controversy surrounding this, along with reported performance issues, Monster Hunter Wilds achieved remarkable success, boasting over 1.3 million concurrent players on Steam at launch.

Capcom has yet to respond to the considerable player backlash. The community expresses widespread disappointment with the paid customization model, drawing unfavorable comparisons to previous games in the series where appearance changes were either free or obtainable via in-game currency. Many fans view this as a significant departure from a core franchise feature.
