Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus, its popular platform fighter, following the completion of its fifth season. The game's official channels revealed on January 31, 2025, that the servers will power down on May 30, 2025.

Season 5: A Final Curtain Call

Season 5, launching February 4, 2025, will be the game's last content update. This final season will introduce two highly anticipated characters: Aquaman from DC Comics and Lola Bunny from Looney Tunes. The developers have confirmed that all Season 5 content will be unlockable through gameplay. Following the season's conclusion, MultiVersus will be removed from all digital storefronts (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store). No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.

While online functionality will cease, players can continue enjoying MultiVersus offline. A local gameplay mode, supporting solo play against AI or cooperative play with up to three friends, will remain accessible. To retain this offline access, players must download the latest game version between February 4th, 9 AM PST and May 30th, 9 AM PDT. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's online account, preserving all earned and purchased content.

In-Game Purchases Halted

Real-money transactions for Gleamium, the game's premium currency, were suspended on January 31, 2025. However, players retaining Gleamium can continue using it to acquire in-game items until Season 5 ends.

Initially launched in July 2022 as a public beta, MultiVersus quickly gained popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. The game underwent a relaunch in May 2024, incorporating significant improvements such as rollback netcode and a new PvE mode. Despite these enhancements, the game faced ongoing criticism regarding technical issues, frequent disconnections, and its monetization strategy. Reports indicated a substantial player base decline in July 2024.

The game will conclude its run with a roster of 35 playable characters from various franchises. The developers expressed gratitude for the community's support throughout MultiVersus' lifespan. The game will remain available for download until May 30, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
