Neil Druckmann: No Promises on The Last of Us Part 3

If you're a fan of The Last of Us eagerly awaiting news about a potential Part 3, you might want to brace yourself for some disappointing news. Neil Druckmann, the series creator, has seemingly extinguished any hope of a sequel in a recent interview with Variety. The conversation primarily focused on the upcoming The Last of Us TV series, but when questioned about the possibility of The Last of Us Part 3, Druckmann's response was less than encouraging.

“I was waiting for this question,” Druckmann said with a sigh. “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”

While Druckmann's statement might be disheartening, it's worth considering whether to take his words at face value. Currently, Naughty Dog is deeply engaged in developing Intergalactic, which was unveiled at The Game Awards last December. With no release window announced yet, Intergalactic is likely years away from completion. Given the studio's focus on this new space-themed project, it's unlikely they have the bandwidth to start on The Last of Us Part 3 anytime soon. Druckmann might be playing it safe, or perhaps he's genuinely unsure about the future of the series. Only time will tell if his stance changes or if he's truly finished with The Last of Us.

For those still hungry for more The Last of Us, the television series offers a glimmer of hope. The second season is set to premiere on April 13 on Max. While Druckmann remains uncertain about the number of seasons needed to conclude the story of Part 2, an HBO executive hinted in February that four seasons might be the ideal length to fully explore the narrative.
