"Netflix Stories Cancelled, Still Playable!"
Netflix has officially announced the closure of its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, marking the end of a brief yet intriguing experiment in narrative gaming. This decision comes as a surprise to many, given that the games boasted a solid player base. So, why did Netflix Stories get the axe? Let's dive into the full story!
The news, first reported by Variety, is part of a larger strategic pivot at Netflix Games. The company is now shifting its focus to mobile titles, including party games, children's games, mainstream releases, and more interactive experiences designed for TV play.
Boss Fight Entertainment, the creative force behind the Netflix Stories series, will continue to collaborate with Netflix on other projects, such as the much-anticipated Squid Game: Unleashed.
Netflix Stories Gets Cancelled, So Is It Shutting Down?
Despite facing some criticism, Netflix Stories consistently ranked among the most-played titles within the Netflix Games catalog. Recent reports place it at the fourth spot in the Netflix Games top 10 carousel, which measures player engagement through playtime rather than downloads.
As for the future of the series, the final interactive title under the Netflix Stories banner will be Love Is Blind: NYC. Once this game is fully rolled out, no new titles will be developed under this label. This decision comes right after the Netflix Stories app began teasing its next game, The Love Contract, which was slated for release on April 8th.
Unlike its predecessors, The Love Contract was not based on any existing Netflix IP. It promised an original romance story about an actress navigating a complex love triangle with a Hollywood star and a billionaire, amidst fame, scandal, and faux romance. Unfortunately, this project has now been canceled.
Despite the cancellation, existing Netflix Stories games will remain accessible to players. Fans can still enjoy titles like Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple. However, planned sequels for popular series such as Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have been scrapped.
So, there you have it—the full scoop on the cancellation of Netflix Stories! If you're a fan of Netflix shows, you might want to check out these games on the Google Play Store.
