Nintendo is prepared to tackle potential Nintendo Switch 2 launch shortages and combat scalpers, stating, "We are making preparations." Following the release of its financial report, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed concerns about a repeat of the original Switch's 2017 launch shortages.

Furukawa, in comments translated by VGC from a Nikkei interview, emphasized that Nintendo will implement various strategies learned from past experiences with scalpers. He confirmed, "We will take all possible measures based on the experience we have accumulated to date... We are making preparations."

These preparations likely involve significantly increasing Nintendo Switch 2 production. Last year, Nintendo highlighted sufficient manufacturing to meet demand as crucial in preventing scalping. The original Switch's 2017 launch suffered from supply constraints, leading to inflated prices from scalpers. However, Furukawa stated that the Switch 2 launch will be different.

He reiterated, "As a countermeasure against resale, we believe that the most important thing is to produce a sufficient number to meet customer demand... Although we were unable to produce sufficient quantities of Nintendo Switch hardware last year and the year before due to a shortage of semiconductor components, this situation has now been resolved."

A Switch 2 Direct is scheduled for April 2nd, promising further details. Additionally, Switch 2 hands-on events are planned in various global locations.

Addressing declining Nintendo Switch sales, Furukawa downplayed the impact of consumers delaying purchases in anticipation of the Switch 2, stating, "We don't think the impact of refraining from purchasing is that great."

Nintendo plans to continue supporting the original Switch "as long as there is demand," with Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond slated for 2025 release on the original console.
