Nintendo Switch 2 Accessory Costs Soar, Stirring Fan Reaction

Dec 12,25

Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing for the Switch 2 console and its lineup of accessories. While the console itself retains its previously announced price, accessory costs have seen a general increase—and initial reactions suggest this may influence early adopter plans.

The base Nintendo Switch 2 model remains priced at $449.99, with the Mario Kart World bundle set at $499.99. The Mario Kart game will still be sold separately for $79.99, and Donkey Kong Bananza will retail for $69.99.

Where things have shifted, however, is accessory pricing—nearly across the board. Below is a detailed breakdown:

Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99

In a post on its official site, Nintendo clarified that Switch 2 accessory pricing has been "adjusted from the figures shared on April 2 due to evolving market conditions." For premium accessories like a pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers, the Pro Controller, or the camera, a $5 increase appears to be common. The Switch 2 Dock Set saw a larger jump—rising from $109.99 to $119.99.

Fans were quick to point out that a second set of Joy-Cons is now quite costly: at $94.99, the pair is just $5 away from a three-digit price tag, leaving some prospective buyers surprised by the expense.

Amid the pricing concerns, many are also highlighting that numerous original Switch accessories will remain compatible with the Switch 2. According to Nintendo's support page, several legacy accessories—such as original Joy-Cons and the Switch Pro Controller—can still be paired wirelessly with the new console, even if they can't attach directly. Super Nintendo and N64 controllers will likewise remain usable with compatible titles.

Many users are discussing original Switch accessory compatibility or considering third-party controllers. While these alternatives may lack some features—such as the C-button or the ability to wake the console—they could represent a worthwhile saving for budget-conscious buyers.

Further pricing adjustments aren’t out of the question. As Nintendo noted, "Future price changes for any Nintendo product may occur depending on market conditions." Still, for those concerned about costs, it helps to know that existing Pro controllers and other supported accessories will carry forward to the Switch 2.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 begin on April 24, 2025.
