Nintendo Switch 2 leak pulled after premature reveal

Nov 09,25

Some individuals appear to have obtained Nintendo Switch 2 consoles prematurely, despite Nintendo's strict precautions. However, leak enthusiasts face disappointment – not only does the console require a day-one patch to function, but Nintendo swiftly issued a copyright strike against the reveal video.

The eight-second YouTube clip, originally posted by user Ali Almarzooqi and reviewed by IGN before its removal, showed what seemed to be legitimate Switch 2 packaging being unwrapped to reveal the plastic-covered console. That's all – just hardware inside a box.

If counterfeit, it's remarkably convincing. The rapid copyright enforcement by anti-piracy firm Web Capio strongly suggests authenticity. According to the poster, legitimacy verification awaits until June 5 regardless of the copyright situation, as the device allegedly requires a launch day update:

Deals tracker Wario64 later reported a second source claiming Switch 2 ownership, who encountered a system message when attempting to boot a Switch 1 game: "Please connect to the internet and update your system."

While these could theoretically be sophisticated fabrications, their credibility may soon be tested if either owner performs a comprehensive unboxing or shares the update prompt. Until then, such glimpses might represent our sole early preview of Nintendo's upcoming console.

With June 5 as our next potential information milestone, we currently rely on Nintendo's official announcements to understand the Switch 2 experience. Thus far, we've tested Mario Kart World on the platform and received numerous details including backward compatibility enhancements, variable refresh rate specifications, and GameChat requirements involving phone number verification. Despite selling out instantly during last month's pre-order window, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser guarantees sufficient holiday season stock availability.
