Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrades for Games like Breath of the Wild and Metroid Prime 4 Announced

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly all games from the Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Moreover, several popular titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring unique upgrades. The showcased games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers distinct enhancements. The presentation kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces "Jamboree TV." This upgrade includes mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble features, and gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.

Next up were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which will boast improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, these games will benefit from a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service offers voice guidance to assist in locating Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom with friends via QR codes.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled Star-Crossed World, along with enhanced graphics and framerates.

New titles such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A will also get upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control capabilities, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR support, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will offer better resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Additionally, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, allowing players who own the original Switch versions to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions.

Later in the presentation, Nintendo also highlighted several third-party games receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. These include Civilization 7, which will support mouse functionality, and Street Fighter 6, featuring exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.

Nintendo has been teasing "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games since last week, with a webpage mentioning these editions in a footnote about the new Virtual Game Card system. It clarified that these enhanced games cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
