The Nintendo Switch 2 announcement trailer reveals a larger console than its predecessor. A size comparison, aided by a Genki Switch 2 mock-up examined at CES 2025, provides estimated dimensions.

Estimated Switch 2 Screen Size:

The Switch 2 is estimated to have an 8-inch screen (diagonal measurement), approximately 177mm wide and 99mm tall. This represents a nearly 30% diagonal increase and a 66% larger area compared to the original Switch's 6.2-inch screen. Compared to the Switch Lite (5.5-inch), the increase is 45% diagonally and 111% in area. Against the Switch OLED (7-inch), it's 14% larger diagonally and 30% larger in area. While larger than the original Steam Deck's 7-inch screen, the Switch 2's estimated size is still slightly smaller than the Steam Deck OLED's 7.4-inch display.

Estimated Switch 2 Overall Console Size:

Based on the Genki mock-up, the Switch 2 is estimated to be approximately 265mm long and 115mm tall. This is roughly a 25% increase in size compared to the original Switch (239mm x 102mm). It's approximately 61% larger than the Switch Lite and about 12% smaller than the Steam Deck. The depth is expected to be similar to the original Switch.

Estimated Switch 2 Joy-Con Size:

The Joy-Cons are estimated to be around 32mm wide and 115mm tall – the same width as the original, but 13mm taller (approximately a 13% increase).

Estimated Switch 2 Screen Unit Size:

Subtracting the Joy-Con dimensions from the overall console size, the screen unit is estimated to be 200mm long and 115mm tall, about 31% larger than the original Switch. This allows for relatively slim bezels.

These dimensions are estimations based on the Genki mock-up and analysis of the trailer. While not official, they suggest a significantly larger console than its predecessors, positioning the Switch 2 as a substantial handheld gaming device.
