Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Delivery Not Guaranteed Due to High Demand

May 15,25

Nintendo has issued a crucial update for U.S. fans eagerly awaiting the release of the Switch 2, set for June 5. The company has acknowledged the high demand, similar to what was experienced in Japan, and warned that it may struggle to meet the delivery expectations for the launch date.

In a recent statement on their website, Nintendo addressed those who have registered interest in purchasing a Switch 2 through the My Nintendo Store. They stated that due to overwhelming demand, they cannot guarantee delivery by the release date. As a result, invitation emails for purchase might arrive after the console's launch. However, Nintendo assured customers that they will confirm the shipping date upon purchase.

“Thank you to those of you who have already registered your interest in purchasing from My Nintendo Store,” the statement reads. “We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase.”

To increase the chances of obtaining a Switch 2 on launch day, Nintendo suggests pre-ordering from third-party retailers. However, this advice comes amidst reports that Switch 2 has already sold out at major retailers like GameStop following the opening of pre-orders. “If you wish to increase your opportunity of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 system at launch, please visit our participating retail partners above,” the statement advises, with a link to GameStop, where the console is currently unavailable.

For those willing to wait, no further action is required after registering interest with My Nintendo Store. The struggle to pre-order the Switch 2, which began on April 24, along with Nintendo's warning, indicates that securing the console around its launch will be challenging.

Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, highlighted the overwhelming demand in Japan, where 2.2 million people applied for a pre-order from the My Nintendo Store. This number far exceeds the company's expectations and the available stock for the launch. Furukawa's statement on X / Twitter explained that the "extremely large number of applications... far exceeds our expectations, and far exceeds the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles that can be delivered from the My Nintendo Store on June 5."

According to an FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitation emails for the U.S. My Nintendo Store will be sent starting May 8, 2025. Subsequent batches will be sent periodically until the store opens for everyone. These initial emails will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible registrants meeting specific priority criteria. Invitees will have 72 hours to complete their purchase after receiving the email.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitation priority requirements:

  • You must have purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • You must have maintained a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for at least 12 months.
  • You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours of total gameplay.
