Omori Cancels Switch and PS4 Physical Release in Europe

Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has unfortunately cancelled the game's physical release for the Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. This news has left many fans disappointed, and the reasons behind the cancellation are detailed below.

Omori's Cancelled Physical Release: A Timeline of Delays

The cancellation, announced via Twitter (now X), cites technical difficulties with multilingual European localization as the primary cause. While Meridiem Games declined to elaborate beyond this statement, the cancellation follows a series of frustrating delays.

Initially slated for a March 2023 release, the European physical edition was first pushed back to December 2023, then again to March 2024, and finally to January 2025. Pre-orders through retailers like Amazon were repeatedly updated with these postponed release dates, ultimately culminating in the disheartening news of the complete cancellation.

This is particularly disappointing for European fans, as it would have been the first official release of the game in Spanish and other European languages. While a physical copy remains obtainable through importing a US version, the convenience and official localization are now lost.

About Omori:

Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG centered around Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event. The game seamlessly blends the real world with Sunny's dream world, where he adopts the persona of Omori. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, Omori expanded to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was later removed due to an inappropriate T-shirt design previously sold by OMOCAT.
