Recent reports have confirmed that SteamWorld Heist 2, the upcoming turn-based tactics game, will not be launching on Xbox Game Pass, contrary to earlier marketing materials. The game's August 8th release date remains unchanged, but developers have attributed the initial Game Pass announcement to an unintentional error.

The confusion stemmed from the inclusion of the Game Pass logo in the April trailer. The game's PR team, Fortyseven, clarified that this was an "inadvertent inclusion," and subsequent social media posts mentioning Game Pass availability have since been removed.

Despite this setback for Game Pass subscribers, the platform still offers a selection of SteamWorld titles, including the recently added SteamWorld Dig and SteamWorld Dig 2, and last year's day-one release of SteamWorld Build.

While SteamWorld Heist 2 won't be a day-one Game Pass title, Xbox Game Pass subscribers still have a robust July lineup to look forward to, including six confirmed day-one releases:

  • Flock and Magical Delicacy: July 16th
  • Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn (Souls-lite) and Dungeons of Hinterberg (Zelda-inspired): July 18th
  • Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess: July 19th
  • Frostpunk 2: July 25th

This incident echoes a similar situation with Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, where a Game Pass listing was attributed to a "template mistake." Although SteamWorld Heist 2's absence from Game Pass is disappointing, the diverse range of upcoming titles provides alternative options for players. The game will still launch on August 8th for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
