PlayStation Logo Pops Up on Work-in-Progress Starfield Creation, Sparking PS5 Release Speculation

Speculation surrounding a PlayStation 5 release of Starfield intensified recently after fans spotted a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website. The logo appeared on a work-in-progress ship decal creation, which was later removed. This sparked widespread fan speculation that Bethesda's sci-fi title, currently exclusive to PC and Xbox, is headed to PS5.

They have added the Playstation logo to a creation. (I think they are beta testers, the logo only appears on one creation)

This discovery naturally leads to questions about potential future content updates, perhaps even a new expansion, timed to coincide with a PS5 release. Recent months have seen a relative quiet surrounding Starfield, following the release of the less-than-stellar Shattered Space expansion. With Microsoft's anticipated summer showcase, an event that has become an annual tradition, many believe this could be the perfect platform for major Starfield announcements.

Bethesda itself has hinted at "exciting things" planned for Starfield this year, acknowledging player concerns regarding communication and updates. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Starfield, confirming at least one more story expansion after Shattered Space. In an interview with MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard stated the aim is to release an annual story expansion "hopefully for a very long time."

Starfield, launched in September 2023, marked Bethesda's first new IP in years and its first mainline single-player game since Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media in March 2021. IGN's review scored it a 7/10, stating: "Starfield has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist."

In January, Microsoft's Phil Spencer declined to rule out a PS5 release for Starfield. Reports indicated both Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny were being considered for PS5. Indiana Jones subsequently received a PS5 release in Spring 2025, a few months after its PC and Xbox release. Starfield's PS5 release remains unconfirmed, though Spencer's comments suggest it's a possibility.

Several Xbox games are already available on PS5, including Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Pentiment. Microsoft already publishes Minecraft on PlayStation and plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Forza Horizon 5 is also confirmed for PS5, and there are even reports that Halo after years of Xbox exclusivity.

Spencer has stated that Xbox's multiplatform strategy aims to boost Microsoft's gaming revenue, particularly in light of its significant acquisition of Activision Blizzard. As Spencer said: "We run a business… It’s definitely true inside of Microsoft the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company… So I look at this, how can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platform continues to grow, on console, on PC, and on cloud. It’s just going to be a strategy that works for us."

Bethesda Game Studios, a 450-person studio, currently manages five teams: Starfield, Elder Scrolls VI, Fallout 76, mobile projects, and external development partnerships.
