Get ready to celebrate the Lunar New Year in Pokémon GO! Niantic has announced a special event brimming with opportunities to catch Lucky Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, and earn fantastic rewards. Similar to the recent Fashion Week event, completing Field Research tasks will yield bonus rewards throughout the Lunar New Year festivities.

Pokémon GO's ninth anniversary in 2025 is shaping up to be a big one, with several events and updates planned leading up to the summer and Pokémon GO Fest. This Lunar New Year event precedes Pokémon GO Tour: Unova (February 21st-23rd in Los Angeles and New Taipei City, and globally in March), offering a chance to add new Pokémon to your collection before the Unova event begins.

The Pokémon GO Lunar New Year event starts Wednesday, January 29th, at 10:00 a.m. and ends Sunday, February 2nd, at 8:00 p.m. local time. During this period, you'll have increased chances of obtaining Lucky Pokémon through trades and becoming Lucky Friends. Keep an eye out for boosted wild spawns of Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini, with increased Shiny encounter rates. 2 km Eggs will also feature Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi.
