Pokemon NPCs Won\'t Leave Player Alone in Funny Gameplay Video

Dec 09,24

A Pokémon player is experiencing an unusual level of popularity, or rather, persistent attention from two NPCs who relentlessly call their in-game phone. A short video shows the player trapped, unable to move, while these two characters repeatedly initiate calls.

Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced a phone feature allowing players to save contact information for certain NPCs after battles. These NPCs may then call to check in, provide story updates, or offer rematches. However, this player's game appears to be malfunctioning, stuck in a continuous loop of calls from two particularly enthusiastic trainers.

Pokémon enthusiast FodderWadder shared a video showcasing this predicament. While standing in a Pokémon Center, the player receives a call from Wade the Bug Catcher, followed immediately by a call from Youngster Joey. The calls repeat endlessly, with Joey requesting a rematch on Route 30 and Wade discussing his Caterpie and a recent Pidgey encounter.

The relentless calls aren't a one-time occurrence. After each call ends, the phone immediately rings again, cycling between Joey and Wade with the same pre-recorded messages. This persistent barrage is unusual, even considering Youngster Joey's reputation for repetitive calls in the game. FodderWadder theorizes a save file glitch is the cause. Other players, however, find the situation amusing, suggesting the NPCs are simply eager for conversation.

While players can delete phone numbers, the game automatically answers incoming calls. FodderWadder eventually escaped the loop, but only after considerable difficulty navigating the constant interruptions to access the menu, delete the numbers, and leave the Pokémon Center. This experience has made them hesitant to add new contacts, fearing a recurrence of the endless call loop.
