Robert Eggers to Write and Direct Labyrinth Sequel

Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror film Nosferatu, will helm a sequel to the beloved classic, Labyrinth. Variety reports Eggers will write and direct this sequel to Jim Henson's 1986 dark fantasy film starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. He'll collaborate on the script with Sjón, his writing partner on The Northman. While a sequel was previously in development with Scott Derrickson attached, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted for Eggers' vision.

PlayThe original 1986 *Labyrinth* featured Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth, who kidnaps Connelly's baby brother. Connelly's character then embarks on a fantastical journey into a dark world, aided by a cast of Henson puppets, to rescue her sibling.

Eggers' plate is full beyond Labyrinth. He's also directing Werwulf, a werewolf movie slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th-century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English. The plot, naturally, will involve some sort of wolf-monster transformation.

Nosferatu, Eggers' recent Christmas release, is a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film. Set in 19th-century Germany, it follows a real estate agent sent to Transylvania to conduct a business deal, only to find himself and his wife, Ellen, ensnared in a web of vampiric horror.

Nosferatu received four Oscar nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. Read our Nosferatu review here.
