Paramount Pictures has officially announced the release date for the next installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Get ready for Sonic the Hedgehog 4, slated to hit theaters on March 19, 2027.

Variety reports the release date, giving fans a two-year wait until the blue blur returns to the big screen. Details beyond the release date remain scarce.

This sequel comes as no surprise, given the phenomenal success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The film raked in a domestic box office gross of $218 million and over $420 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film in the Sonic franchise, surpassing the impressive $148 million earned by the first film. This success is particularly noteworthy considering the initial controversy surrounding the original Sonic design, which underwent significant post-production changes.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also holds the distinction of being the second highest-grossing video game movie in North America, trailing only the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie, further fueling the long-standing rivalry between Nintendo and Sega on the silver screen.

The live-action Sonic universe continues to expand, now encompassing three feature films and a Knuckles-centric spin-off streaming series.

Based on the beloved Sega video game series, the films follow Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) as he battles his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Each film has introduced more iconic characters, including Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba), with Sonic 3 finally introducing Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).
