Sony PlayStation State of Play Scheduled for Next Week

Apr 24,25

Sony is reportedly gearing up for its customary February PlayStation State of Play broadcast, scheduled for next week. Leaker NateTheHate, known for accurately predicting the date of Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal, hinted at a State of Play during Valentine’s Day week, spanning February 10 to 14.

Speculation is rife about what Sony might unveil at this year's event. A review of Sony's announced first-party titles slated for 2025 offers some clues. Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei is among those with a 2025 release window, and fans might get a glimpse of new gameplay alongside a potential release date.

Bungie’s PvP extraction shooter, Marathon, could also feature prominently, especially if open playtesting is still on the cards for this year. Haven Studios’ debut title, Fairgames, is another possibility. Naughty Dog's newly announced IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine are also on the radar. A fresh trailer for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which is set to launch in 2025, seems highly probable.

However, don’t expect to see any of Sony’s recently canceled live service games. Last month, Sony axed two unannounced live-service projects from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, the latter being a live-service God of War title. While Bend Studio’s project remains a mystery, Guerrilla Games' live service Horizon game reportedly survived the cuts. Could this be the moment for its reveal?

On the third-party front, while it might be too early for Hideo Kojima's stealth-action exclusive Physint, Phantom Blade Zero from Chinese studio S-Game could make an appearance. Given Microsoft's increasing presence on PlayStation, there's speculation about Indiana Jones and the Great Circle receiving a release date announcement. Some even wonder if Microsoft might use the State of Play to announce Halo coming to PlayStation.

Reflecting on past State of Play events can offer insights into what to expect. Last year's showcase featured titles like Death Stranding 2, Physint, Rise of the Ronin, the Until Dawn remaster, Stellar Blade, Dragon's Dogma 2, Sonic x Shadow Generations, various Silent Hill projects, Ken Levine’s Judas, Foamstars, and Helldivers 2.
