Sony Removes GTA 6 Parody 'Grand Taking Ages' from PS Store, Now Available on Steam

The creators of the contentious Grand Theft Auto 6 parody game, Grand Taking Ages, have returned with a Steam page after Sony removed it from the PlayStation Store. This parody management simulator, developed by Violarte, places players in the role of running a game development studio, satirizing the long-awaited release of Rockstar's GTA 6.

Last month, Grand Taking Ages VI appeared on the PlayStation Store, featuring AI-generated art and a list of whimsical gameplay features, along with fake awards from gaming websites. It even included a May 2025 release date and allowed users to wishlist it. However, Sony quickly pulled the game from its store due to these elements.

Now, after undergoing significant changes, Grand Taking Ages is back, this time on Steam. Violarte told IGN that the game went through a "thorough" review process and was approved for publishing on Steam. The updated Steam page includes a new trailer and screenshots that emphasize the parody nature of the game.

Key changes include removing the "VI" from the game's title, altering the logo, and modifying descriptions and overall presentation to differentiate it from GTA 6. While the new art still bears some resemblance to Rockstar's iconic imagery, it is distinct enough to meet Valve's approval.

Despite these changes, Grand Taking Ages still utilizes generative AI, particularly for voice overs, as disclosed on its Steam page. The new game description reads:

Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of "creative" deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!

Violarte took a different approach with Valve compared to Sony, engaging with the Steam team about the game's concept before officially submitting it. This preemptive communication helped ensure the game aligned with Steam's guidelines. Violarte also cited other successful parodies, such as Grand Theft Hamlet, to argue that their game should be protected from takedowns.

Looking to return to the PlayStation Store, Violarte believes that the recent updates make Grand Taking Ages suitable for relisting. They have reached out to Sony, emphasizing that the changes were significant enough for Valve to approve the game for Steam. "We strongly believe that there will be no issues with Sony this time, given the adjustments we've implemented," Violarte stated.

The initial appearance of Grand Taking Ages VI on the PlayStation Store raised questions about Sony's curation process. In contrast, Valve's more open policy on Steam is well-known, as the platform hosts a variety of games, including those utilizing generative AI.

Meanwhile, the highly anticipated GTA 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in the fall of 2025.
