Spider-Man 2 came out on PC and was hacked within an hour

Marvel's Spider-Man 2's PC launch on Steam and the Epic Games Store was notable for its lack of pre-order and pre-download options, resulting in a massive 140 GB download. This absence of early access surprisingly didn't prevent a swift crack, with hackers bypassing the game's minimal anti-piracy measures within an hour of release.

Sony's understated marketing campaign and the late release of system requirements further contributed to the situation. Despite this, Spider-Man 2 has already secured a place as Sony's seventh-largest Steam release, trailing behind titles like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Days Gone.

Initial player reception, however, is mixed. At the time of writing, the game holds a 55% positive rating based on over 1,280 reviews, with common complaints citing optimization issues, crashes, and bugs.

Spider-Man Remastered continues to dominate the series' PC presence, having previously peaked at over 66,000 concurrent players. Whether Spider-Man 2 can match this success remains to be seen, but current sales trends suggest a promising outcome over the weekend.
