Splash Damage has officially canceled its Transformers game, Reactivate, after a prolonged and difficult development process. This decision, announced via Twitter, unfortunately may result in staff layoffs. The studio is now focusing its efforts on Project Astrid, a AAA open-world survival game powered by Unreal Engine 5, a project they announced in March 2023, in collaboration with streamers Shroud and Sacriel.

Initially revealed at The Game Awards 2022, Reactivate was envisioned as a 1-4 player online game featuring Autobots and Decepticons uniting against a new alien threat. Leaks suggested a Generation 1 roster including Ironhide, Hot Rod, Starscream, and Soundwave, with potential appearances by Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and even Beast Wars characters. However, a lack of updates since the initial trailer fueled speculation of its cancellation.

Splash Damage expressed gratitude to its development team and Hasbro for their support. Fan reaction to the cancellation is varied, with some expressing disappointment, while others anticipated this outcome given the prolonged silence. The cancellation of Reactivate means the search for a high-quality, AAA Transformers game continues for fans.
