Squad Busters 2.0 Hits Android Before First Anniversary!

May 18,25

Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with the release of its monumental update 2.0, set to launch on May 13th. Since its debut in 2024, the game has struggled to build the fanbase that Supercell envisioned. With this significant update, could the tides be turning for Squad Busters?

This Isn’t Just a Tweak or Two

Squad Busters 2.0 is more than just a minor update; it's a complete overhaul, akin to a reboot. The changes touch every aspect of the game, from battle mechanics to victory conditions, marking a significant shift in gameplay dynamics.

One of the most notable changes is the introduction of Heroes. Players will now select a Hero to lead their squad into battle. These Heroes are familiar characters from the game, and the stakes are high—lose your Hero, and you lose the match.

Combat mechanics are also being revamped. No longer will you need to pause your movement to engage in battle. Instead, movement and combat are seamlessly integrated, promising more dynamic, fast-paced, and intense matches.

Victory conditions are undergoing a transformation as well. Instead of eliminating all opponents on the battlefield, your primary goal will be to take down the enemy Hero. Some players have noted that this change bears a resemblance to Brawl Stars, suggesting Squad Busters might be evolving into something akin to a Brawl Stars spin-off with added complexity.

Squad Busters 2.0 Is Dumping a Lot of Old Features

In this update, several game modes are being discontinued, including Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder. Additionally, certain skins and progression systems will be removed. To ease the transition, Supercell plans to compensate players with Hero Points and other in-game items.

It's clear why Supercell is pushing these changes so swiftly. Squad Busters hasn't yet reached the popularity levels of other Supercell hits like Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars.

With the significant 2.0 update and the first anniversary approaching on May 29th, Supercell aims to rekindle player interest. To mark the occasion, a series of daily piñata events will kick off, offering players a chance to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.
