Stardew Valley DLC and Updates Forever Free, Promises Creator

Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, the mastermind behind Stardew Valley, has reaffirmed his dedication to providing free updates and DLC to his loyal fanbase.

In a recent Twitter (now X) post, Barone provided an update on the progress of various ports and upcoming PC updates, stating, "The ports and next PC update are still in progress. I know it is taking a long time, it's on my mind every minute. I have personally been working on the mobile port every day. I will announce when there is any meaningful news (e.g. a release date). Hope you're having a good summer."

Responding to a fan's comment about the community's acceptance of continued support as long as it remained free, Barone emphatically declared, "I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live." This strong statement assures players that all future additions to Stardew Valley will be entirely free.

Stardew Valley, a beloved farming simulator/RPG released in 2016, has consistently received significant updates enhancing gameplay and adding fresh content. The recent 1.6.9 update, for example, introduced three new festivals, multiple pet options, expanded home renovations, new outfits, substantial late-game content, and various quality-of-life improvements.

Barone's commitment may extend beyond Stardew Valley, as he's also developing a new game, Haunted Chocolatier. However, details on this project remain scarce, leaving fans eagerly awaiting further announcements.

As the sole developer of Stardew Valley, Barone's statement reflects a remarkable level of respect and appreciation for his community. His declaration, "Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath," underscores his unwavering commitment to providing ongoing, free content to his players, ensuring that this seven-year-old game continues to evolve and engage its dedicated fanbase without any additional cost.
