Nintendo Addresses Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Nintendo has issued an uncommon statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks originating from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the circulating images are not official, a response that, while seemingly obvious, represents a rare public acknowledgment of product leaks.

The absence of official Nintendo participation at CES 2025 is cited as the reason for dismissing the images, which surfaced after accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at the Las Vegas event. This replica quickly gained traction on social media.

The statement, made to the Sankei Shimbun, simply stated the images were "not official." This lack of official presence at CES explains why any Switch 2 material showcased there cannot be considered legitimate promotional material.

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the accuracy of Genki's replica, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is the inclusion of an additional button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with its function currently unknown. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai also suggested that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will utilize magnetic attachment instead of sliding rails and function as mouse controllers, corroborating existing speculation.

Nintendo's Timeline and Pricing

Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 reveal during fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A release date is speculated for the second quarter of 2025 at the earliest, with a rumored retail price of $399.
