Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Madame Web, is set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of the popular video game Split Fiction. The film is being directed by Jon M. Chu, acclaimed for his work on Wicked, with the screenplay penned by the dynamic duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who brought us Deadpool & Wolverine. Story Kitchen, the powerhouse behind the successful Sonic films, is now taking this impressive talent package to Hollywood studios, anticipating a fierce bidding war.

While Sweeney's role has yet to be finalized, she could play either Zoe or Mio, the two sisters central to the game's narrative. Split Fiction, developed by Hazelight and designer Josef Fares, only launched in March but quickly became a hit, selling over 2 million copies in just one week. It's also set to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2.

In our IGN review, Split Fiction earned a stellar 9/10 rating, praised as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that's very hard to walk away from."

Hazelight's success doesn't stop there. Another of their games, It Takes Two, which sold 23 million copies, is also slated for a movie adaptation, potentially starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. While the future of these adaptations remains uncertain, the current boom in successful video game movies suggests Hollywood is eager to capitalize on this trend.

Last year, Story Kitchen announced several other high-profile adaptations, including a film based on Square Enix's Just Cause, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto of Blue Beetle fame, as well as movies based on Dredge, Kingmakers, Sleeping Dogs, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie. Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing its next game, keeping fans eagerly anticipating what's next.
