Veilguard Ditches Denuvo DRM, Trusts Players
BioWare has announced exciting news for Dragon Age: The Veilguard players: the game will be free from the hassles of Digital Rights Management (DRM) software, specifically Denuvo. However, there's a catch for PC players—no preload option will be available.
Veilguard Fans Rejoice Over No DRM Decision
But No Preload for PC Players
"Veilguard will not have Denuvo on PC. We trust you," Dragon Age: The Veilguard project director Michael Gamble shared on Twitter (X). Denuvo, a popular DRM solution among major game publishers like EA, is often criticized by players, particularly on PC, for causing performance issues. BioWare's decision to forego Denuvo has been met with enthusiasm from the community. "I support this. I will buy your game upon launch. Thank you," one user responded to Gamble's announcement.
In addition to the absence of Denuvo, BioWare has confirmed that Veilguard will not require players to be always online to enjoy the game, as stated by Gamble in a reply to another user. However, the decision to exclude DRM means that PC players will not have the option to preload the game, which is disappointing given Veilguard's hefty 100GB storage requirement. Console players, on the other hand, can still preload the game. Xbox players with early access can install it now, while PlayStation early access players will need to wait until October 29.
Alongside the DRM announcement, BioWare has released the system requirements for Veilguard. "Players with high-end rigs will be able to take advantage of our suite of Ray Tracing features and uncapped frame rates. For the minimum PC specs, we focused on making the game as accessible to as many people as possible," BioWare stated. Console players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will have options for fidelity and performance modes, targeting 30 and 60 FPS respectively. To enable all Ray Tracing effects on PC, you'll need at least an Intel Core i9 9900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT graphics card.
