WB Reportedly Cancels Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Paid DLC

According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year, coinciding with the release of a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came this week, with sources citing that the content volume did not meet the expectations required to justify the proposed price tag. Warner Bros. did not provide a comment on this matter when approached by Bloomberg.

This cancellation comes at a time when Warner Bros. is undergoing significant restructuring within its gaming division, driven by financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company made the tough call to cancel its Wonder Woman game, shut down the developer Monolith Productions, and also closed WB San Diego and the studio behind MultiVersus, Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs at Rocksteady occurred just last September, underscoring the scale of the restructuring efforts.

Despite the setback with the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the Harry Potter franchise and Hogwarts Legacy, which has been a significant success with over 30 million copies sold. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to the game is a top priority, indicating their commitment to focusing on fewer but larger franchises moving forward.
