May 12,25

Summary

  • The Plunderstorm event in WoW has been delayed due to unexpected issues.
  • No new estimated launch time has been revealed.
  • Players can complete other activities in WoW while waiting for Plunderstorm.

World of Warcraft has postponed the eagerly anticipated return of the Plunderstorm event due to unforeseen complications. Although the team is working diligently to resolve these issues, fans will need to wait a bit longer to dive back into the pirate-themed battle royale mode, which was slated to relaunch on January 14, 2025. This event, introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024, promises both the original and new rewards for players to collect.

The delay stems from unexpected problems that arose during what was supposed to be a six-hour maintenance window, which extended to eight hours. The servers were expected to be back online by 3 PM PST, but according to a forum update by WoW community manager Kaivax, the launch of Plunderstorm has been further delayed. While the team hopes to have the event up and running before the end of January 14, no specific new launch time has been announced.

When is Plunderstorm Live in World of Warcraft?

  • Before the end of January 14, after "unexpected issues" are resolved

In the meantime, World of Warcraft has successfully brought its regular servers back online. Players waiting for Plunderstorm can log in and engage in various activities, such as completing their Siren Isle weeklies, participating in the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or exploring other content in The War Within.

The second iteration of Plunderstorm introduces exciting new features, including the Plunderstore and an in-game event interface accessible while logged into a character. These additions may have contributed to the unexpected issues, but the WoW team is committed to resolving them swiftly to bring the event back to life.

Despite the delay, World of Warcraft's new Plunderstorm Twitch Drops remain available. By watching four hours of any Twitch streamer in the World of Warcraft category before February 4 at 10 AM PST, players can earn the Coward’s Azure Target back transmog. Importantly, the streamer does not need to be playing Plunderstorm for viewers to make progress on this Drop, allowing fans to start earning this unique item while awaiting the game mode's return.
