World of Warcraft is set to thrill its community with the introduction of two innovative racing styles in Patch 11.1: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races that utilize Goblin jetpacks. These new racing options will replace the traditional Skyriding races within the Undermine zone, which is slated for release with the first major content update for World of Warcraft: The War Within.

Patch 11.1, dubbed "Undermined," invites players to explore the expansive subterranean city of Undermine, the bustling capital of the Goblins. This zone, while vast, prohibits flying, steering players towards the use of D.R.I.V.E. – a versatile, customizable car that can race through the city streets at speeds surpassing those of Skyriding. World of Warcraft has confirmed that the Breakneck races will leverage the full capabilities of the D.R.I.V.E. system.

In addition to Breakneck races, Patch 11.1 introduces Skyrocket races. These races employ Goblin jetpacks for aerial navigation, offering a unique movement style that blends elements of both existing flight systems. Unlike Steady flight, players cannot halt mid-air, but unlike Skyriding, they maintain momentum and altitude. As demonstrated by WoW content creator MrGM on the Public Test Realm, racers must navigate through rings to increase speed, though this also reduces the responsiveness of their turns, adding a layer of difficulty to the races.

New Skyrocket Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1

Given the absence of Skyriding in Undermine, traditional Skyriding races will not feature in this zone. However, both Breakneck and Skyrocket races will offer achievements for achieving Bronze, Silver, and Gold times across all races. Additionally, reverse versions of all four Skyrocket and D.R.I.V.E. Breakneck races will be available, though there won't be Advanced or Challenge courses as seen in some Skyriding races.

The initial reception to the Skyrocket races has been mixed. While some fans eagerly anticipate trying them out, others have criticized the jetpack flying for appearing stiff and less responsive than Skyriding. Fortunately, with Patch 11.1 still under development, there remains ample time for refinements before the update's expected release in February.
