World of Warcraft has collaborated with PlatinumWoW to produce an engaging lore video that delves into the rich history of the Feast of Winter Veil. This in-game celebration, akin to Christmas, brings joy to players with unique rewards and activities each year. Blizzard consistently refreshes the event, introducing new items that players can acquire through various means such as random drops or purchases with in-game gold.

The newly released video, narrated by the lore expert and content creator PlatinumWoW, provides an in-depth look at the origins of the Feast of Winter Veil. It explores the Dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter, a Titan-forged giant who leaves trails of snow, and the Tauren's spiritual practices of reflection, renewal, and gratitude towards the Earthmother. Additionally, the video traces the evolution of the holiday into its modern form, highlighting the role of Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin-run enterprise that has commercialized Winter Veil, much like real-world Christmas celebrations.

History of the Feast of Winter Veil in World of Warcraft

A highlight of the video is the tale of Metzen the Reindeer, named after Warcraft’s executive creative director Chris Metzen. Metzen has faced misfortune, being kidnapped three times: by pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic, and by the Greench in the current version of World of Warcraft. The video humorously concludes with Metzen the Reindeer thanking viewers in the voice of Thrall, a character famously voiced by Chris Metzen.

This collaboration with PlatinumWoW is not a first for World of Warcraft. PlatinumWoW has previously created lore breakdowns on topics like Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge for Wrath of the Lich King Classic, as well as World Trees and Blackrock Depths for the modern game. He has also provided guides for events such as Season of Discovery and Plunderstorm. Blizzard's recent partnerships with content creators also include Taliesin & Evitel’s guides for returning players in Dragonflight and the cinematic trailers by Hurricane for World of Warcraft Classic.

Players can enjoy the Feast of Winter Veil in the game until January 5, 2024. This year, Hunters have the opportunity to tame the Dreaming Festive Reindeer, and all players can collect new holiday transmogs and the Grunch pet. After their real-life holiday celebrations, players should log in to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for their special Winter Veil gift, such as last year's Junior Timekeeper’s Racing Belt toy.
