Wuthering Waves’ Kuro Games Acquired by Tencent

Tencent, a leading Chinese technology company, has significantly increased its investment in Kuro Games, the developer behind the popular mobile games Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. This acquisition grants Tencent majority ownership.

Tencent's Increased Stake

Tencent's Majority Ownership of Kuro Games

Tencent now holds approximately 51.4% of Kuro Games' shares, solidifying its position as the majority shareholder. This follows a previous investment in 2023 and the departure of other shareholders. Tencent is now the sole external investor in Kuro Games.

Maintaining Independence

Despite Tencent's majority stake, reports suggest Kuro Games will retain its operational independence. This mirrors Tencent's approach with other successful game studios like Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games stated that this move will foster a "more stable external environment" and support its long-term independent strategy. Tencent has not yet released an official statement.

Kuro Games' Success

Kuro Games has achieved considerable success with both Punishing: Gray Raven and Wuthering Waves. Each title has reportedly generated over $120 million USD in revenue, and both continue to receive regular updates. Wuthering Waves has even earned a Players' Voice nomination at The Game Awards.
