CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Ciri will take center stage in the highly anticipated The Witcher 4, marking a significant and logical evolution in the series' storyline. According to executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega, the transition from Geralt to Ciri stems from the natural progression of the game series and aligns with the narrative arcs found in Andrzej Sapkowski's original works.

Mitrega highlighted that Geralt's story reached its conclusion in The Witcher 3, setting the stage for Ciri, a character brimming with untapped potential. Having been meticulously developed in both the books and the games, Ciri's depth and complexity offer a wealth of creative opportunities for the developers. Director Sebastian Kalemba pointed out that Ciri's younger age allows players greater freedom in shaping her character, a flexibility that was not possible with the more "established" Geralt.

Interestingly, the discussions about shifting the protagonist to Ciri began nearly a decade ago, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision of her as Geralt's natural successor. Kalemba also mentioned that the new challenges and perspectives Ciri will face are set to forge a new epic saga that resonates with players.

Actor Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt, has endorsed this shift, emphasizing Ciri's immense potential as a leading character. While Geralt will still appear in the game, he will no longer be the central focus, thereby emphasizing the fresh narrative perspective that Ciri brings to The Witcher 4.
