Conquering Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide

The game constantly warns against engaging Lu Bu, but defeating him offers significant rewards. This guide details how to overcome this formidable foe.

Should You Fight Lu Bu?

Fighting Lu Bu is incredibly challenging, potentially taking over an hour. However, the rewards are substantial: bragging rights, story progression (if siding with Shu or Wei in Chapter 4's Battle of Xiapi), the "The Strongest" trophy (for defeating him at Hulao Gate), and the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd (post-game victory).

Phase 1: Mounted Lu Bu

Before the battle, equip a multi-hit sword for staggering, and Battle Arts with low Bravery costs, quick activation, and wide range (e.g., Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, Flying Dragon Slash). Use accessories boosting health and defense (Divine Bird’s Wing, Divine Turtle’s Shell). A weapon granting Bravery on Perfect Evades is crucial.

Initially, Lu Bu rides Red Hare. He charges rapidly but pauses occasionally. Attack during these pauses with your Battle Arts, then retreat. His attacks, except for Red Hare's jump attack, have limited area of effect, making evasion manageable. Once his health reaches 80%, he dismounts.

Phase 2: Unmounted Lu Bu

On foot, Lu Bu is relentless. His attacks are swift, and he frequently dashes across the battlefield, becoming temporarily unstaggerable when surrounded by a red aura. Evade his charges (he charges in sets of three). A grab attack, easily evaded, precedes some charges.

His most dangerous move is a three-arrow volley after an orange glow. Use a ranged Battle Art like Absconding Slash to counter this; close-range arts are fatal. Keep your Musou gauge full for invincibility during emergencies. Lu Bu is surprisingly juggleable in this phase; maintain close proximity to react effectively and quickly charge your Battle Arts. Prioritize evasion.

Phase 3: Lu Bu's Musou Rage

Once his health is sufficiently depleted, Lu Bu enters Musou Rage. He becomes unstaggerable and unleashes a relentless assault. The objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he uses his Musou attack; otherwise, the phase restarts. Use all available resources—Musou attacks, Battle Arts, and rapid, powerful strikes—to overcome him.

Defeating Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins requires strategic preparation, skillful evasion, and relentless aggression. Dynasty Warriors: Origins is available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
