Disney Lorcana unveiled exciting updates for its trading card game, announcing the ninth set, Fabled, set for release on September 5, 2025, introducing the first Iconic and Epic cards alongside A Goofy Movie-themed cards.

Additional reveals included details on the eighth set, Reign of Jafar, launching June 6, a new Collection Starter Set, and the Disney Lorcana World Championship. A hint of Darkwing Duck’s arrival also sparked excitement.

Fabled Introduces Iconic and Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Card Rotation for Competitive Play

The Disney Lorcana team shared tantalizing details about Fabled, making the wait for its pre-release on August 29 and full launch on September 5 feel endless.

A Goofy Movie cards will be a major highlight of Fabled, though specifics on which cards remain under wraps. The team confirmed Mickey and Minnie will debut as the game’s first Iconic Cards.

Iconic Cards will be the rarest in Lorcana, with only two per set moving forward. The Mickey and Minnie carousel cards will be highly sought-after by collectors.

Epic Cards, rarer than Legendary but less elusive than Enchanted or Iconic, will feature unique artwork and foil finishes, offering players cards like a new Elsa (Snow Queen).

Fabled will also introduce card rotation, making cards from the first four sets ineligible for Core Constructed competitive play, shaking up high-level strategies.

Fans of older cards can still enjoy them in the new Infinity Constructed format. Fabled will also reprint select cards, like Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), fully playable in competitive matches.

“Rotating out older cards keeps competitive play dynamic, encouraging fresh strategies and deck builds,” said Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger. “We’re reprinting fan-favorite cards from early sets in Fabled, including Enchanted versions, to ensure accessibility.”

New players can dive in with the Collection Starter Set, featuring four Fabled booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) Glimmer Foil Promo Card, a Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor) card portfolio, and a collector’s guide.

Reign of Jafar Brings Aladdin, Bambi, and a Co-Op Adventure

Reign of Jafar, Lorcana’s eighth set, hits pre-release on May 30 and wide release on June 6.

The set advances Lorcana’s narrative, focusing on the Disney villain. “Jafar wields the Hexwell Crown, corrupting Archazia’s Island,” the official summary states. “Glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber must unite to reclaim the crown and defeat the sinister vizier.”

Alongside Reign of Jafar, Illumineers’ Quest: Palace Heist offers a co-op experience for up to four players to battle Jafar and his minion.

Collectible cards include Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), and Aladdin (Vigilant Guard).

Future Sets Tease Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck

Disney announced Whispers in the Well, the set following Fabled, slated for Q4 2025. Key art featuring Mickey, Ariel, and hints of Disney Gargoyles suggests a new Glimmer type.

Looking ahead, Darkwing Duck will join Lorcana in 2026, answering long-standing fan requests.

Disney Lorcana World Championship Set for June 2025

The Disney Lorcana World Championship, scheduled for June 28-29 at Walt Disney World, will crown the first TCG World Champion, drawing top players globally.

Fans can watch live on Twitch.TV/DisneyLorcana, with casters including Rebekah (RebekahQuests), Baker (LorcanaVillain), Liam (The Illumiteers), Brandon (Bsquared24), and JD (JDZ Quest). A non-foil ‘A Whole New World’ promo card will be available, with details forthcoming.
