Elden Ring Nightreign achieved sales of 2 million units on its release day.

“Strong pre-orders and initial sales propelled the game past the remarkable 2 million unit mark,” Bandai Namco stated.

The multiplayer co-op spin-off launched overnight and quickly climbed the Steam most-played chart, reaching a peak of 313,593 concurrent players.

While Microsoft and Sony have not disclosed Xbox and PlayStation player counts, FromSoftware’s announcement of 2 million units sold highlights the massive scale of Elden Ring Nightreign’s debut.

Elden Ring sold 30 million copies since its 2022 release, but Nightreign is unlikely to reach those heights. For comparison, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion sold 5 million units in three days in 2024. It remains to be seen if Nightreign’s sales figures for a similar period will be shared.

Despite its strong player base, Elden Ring Nightreign faces challenges. It holds a ‘mixed’ user review rating on Steam, with criticism focusing on the absence of two-player co-op, lack of voice chat, and a punishing solo mode. Players also report difficulties forming three-player squads. A patch to ease solo play is slated for next week.

As noted in IGN's Elden Ring Nightreign review: "Here’s the key point: if you’re planning to play Nightreign solo and aren’t an expert Elden Ring player who thrives on extreme challenges, this game may not suit you. While a single-player mode exists, its balance is so off that I’d be surprised if it isn’t updated within the first month. This comes from someone who loves these kinds of games."
