In a recent installment of Nintendo's Creator's Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will soon be available on the upcoming Switch 2. This news is exciting for fans of the iconic RPG series, as it marks the return of the Final Fantasy franchise to Nintendo platforms.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the enhanced PS5 version of the 2020 PS4 game Final Fantasy VII Remake, which serves as the first installment in a trilogy reimagining the beloved 1997 PS1 title, Final Fantasy VII. Intergrade boasts improved graphics and lighting compared to the PS4 version and includes the "Intermission" DLC, featuring the adventures of the energetic ninja, Yuffie, in Midgar.

Currently, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is accessible on PS5 and PC. However, thanks to the advanced capabilities of the Switch 2, Hamaguchi confidently stated, “With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs.” This advancement in hardware allows for a seamless transition of the game to Nintendo's next-generation handheld console.

Hamaguchi highlighted the convenience and social aspect of playing Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2, especially in handheld mode. He remarked, “Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work.” The portability of the Switch 2 not only enhances the gaming experience but also facilitates discussions and sharing of in-game progress with others.

The Switch 2 version will also feature GameChat, enabling players to communicate with friends during gameplay and share their screens in real time. Hamaguchi expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system,” and he hopes to foster a robust partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 so far, Hamaguchi hinted at the possibility of future releases, saying, “I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2.” This suggests that Rebirth and the final entry in the trilogy might also make their way to the Switch 2.

This move is significant as the Final Fantasy series initially launched on Nintendo consoles before transitioning to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII in 1997, which introduced the series to 3D gaming. With the remake, fans will finally have the opportunity to experience Final Fantasy VII on Nintendo hardware once again.
