When Did Promo Card 8 Appear in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

The Promo Card section had been looking complete for many players—until recently. Around January 2025, an unexpected gap appeared in the Promo – A Card Dex: Promo Card 008. This new empty slot suddenly showed up between Professor Oak (007) and Pikachu (009), breaking the flow and sparking curiosity across the community.

What Is Promo Card 008 in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

While Promo Card 008 remains unobtainable at this time, some investigative digging reveals details about its design. By exploring cards like Red Card (006) or Pokédex (004), players can scroll down to the Related Cards section and see a greyed-out version of Promo Card 008.

This alternate-art Pokédex card features a vibrant illustration of the device surrounded by Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle—an artistic nod to the original starter Pokémon and the mascot of the series.

Clicking on the image displays an info page confirming that the player hasn't yet obtained the card. According to the description, Promo Card 008 will be “obtained from a campaign.” This phrasing closely mirrors that of the New Year 2025 Pikachu card, suggesting that it may be released as part of a special promotional event.

Unlike cards earned through missions or Wonder Pick events—which include specific references to those methods—Promo Card 008 (and New Year Pikachu) use unique wording. As of now, no further details have been announced regarding the timing or nature of the campaign linked to this promo.

Until then, completionists will just have to wait—or toggle off the view for unowned cards if the gap proves too bothersome.
