PlayStation Stars Loyalty Scheme Ends After Three Years

Dec 30,25

Sony has announced it is shutting down its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, less than three years after it launched.

The rewards program has stopped accepting new members as of today. Existing members who choose to cancel their membership will be unable to rejoin, and all unused reward points will be permanently deleted upon cancellation.

For those who remain enrolled, the ability to earn points will continue until July 23, 2025, while the window for redeeming any leftover points will stay open until November 3, 2026.

Sony has confirmed that, despite discontinuing the program, the PlayStation Stars Digital Collectibles will remain accessible for the foreseeable future. This means you can continue to admire your 3D digital models, such as a Jim Ryan bobblehead, for some time to come.

"Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends," said Grace Chen, PlayStation's vice president of network advertising, loyalty and licensed merchandise, in a statement on the PlayStation blog.

"Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to review our key findings from this program and explore ways to build upon these learnings."

The announcement did not mention a direct replacement for the scheme, and it remains unclear what specific insights Sony gained from operating PlayStation Stars.

PlayStation Stars launched in July 2022 as a way to reward PS5 owners with points that had real monetary value. Points were earned by spending money in the PlayStation Store and by completing various tasks, such as finishing surveys or trying out different games and system features.

The program served as a competitor to Microsoft's Xbox Rewards—over time, both loyalty schemes have been adjusted to become less lucrative for users.

PlayStation Stars was offline for a month last summer due to service issues. Then, in October, Sony implemented several changes, including reducing the point expiration window from 24 months to 12 months and removing PlayStation Plus membership purchases from eligible earnings. Now, the program is being discontinued entirely.
