Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Revealed New Details for the Update

Closed Beta Begins March 13, 2025

Ubisoft has officially announced that Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) will kick off its Closed Beta test on March 13th at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET, immediately following the R6 Siege X Showcase. The beta will run until March 19th at the same times.

To gain access to the R6 Siege X Closed Beta, fans can watch the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or through various Content Creators' Twitch livestreams to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The closed beta test will spotlight the new Dual Front game mode and will be accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

However, there have been reports of players not receiving the anticipated email containing the access code for the R6 Siege X Closed Beta. Ubisoft Support has acknowledged this issue on Twitter (X) on March 14 and is actively working to resolve it and send out the emails promptly.

It's crucial to clarify that R6 Siege X is not a new game but a significant update designed to elevate the Siege experience with comprehensive graphical and technical enhancements.

New 6v6 Game Mode: Dual Front

Ubisoft introduces Dual Front, a dynamic new 6v6 game mode set to bring "foundational upgrades to the core game, including visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel upgrades, and more," according to the official website. Alongside these improvements, players can expect revamped player protection systems and free access, allowing everyone to dive into the tactical action of Rainbow Six Siege without cost.

The action unfolds on a new map, District, where two teams of six Operators will engage in simultaneous attacks and defenses of enemy sectors. This marks the first time R6 will feature both attacking and defending Operators concurrently, opening up a plethora of new tactical possibilities and gadget combinations.

While the Dual Front mode brings fresh excitement, the classic Siege mode, now called "Core Siege," remains a staple. This mode includes five modernized maps: Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe, all boasting double texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and enhanced destructible materials. Initially, only these five maps will be updated, with plans to add three more per future season.

Free Access Starting Season 2 of Year 10

After a decade since its launch, Rainbow Six Siege will transition to a free-to-play model starting with Season 2 of Year 10, aligning with the strategies of its major competitors. When Siege was released in 2015, the landscape of multiplayer games was dominated by paid titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Battlefield Hardline, with live-service models less prevalent.

Alexander Karpazis, Siege Game Director, spoke at the R6 Siege X Showcase event in Atlanta on March 13, highlighting the team's desire to attract new players. "We want people to invite their friends to try out Siege, and we want to give them the majority of the game so that they understand what makes this game so special," he said. Karpazis further emphasized that "Siege is at its best when you've got friends playing with you."

The free access will include game modes such as Unranked, Quick Play, and the new Dual Front. However, access to Ranked mode and the Siege Cup will require a paid premium subscription. This approach, according to former game director Leroy Athanassoff in a 2020 PC Gamer interview, aims to maintain a competitive environment by deterring smurfs and cheaters. "Having that barrier to Ranked or Siege Cup means you have to be committed to the game," Athanassoff noted, a sentiment echoed by Karpazis, who sees it as balancing the game's accessibility with its competitive integrity.

Siege 2 Was Never On The Table

Despite reaching its 10-year milestone, the idea of a sequel, Siege 2, was never considered, as revealed by Karpazis. Unlike competitors such as Overwatch 2 and Counter-Strike 2, R6 Siege chose to focus on enhancing the existing game rather than starting anew.

Karpazis explained, "Siege 2 was never on the table. A lot of live service games are starting to go through this process because a lot of them are hitting that 10-year mark." He added, "We just had to do what was right for Siege and what was right for players as well." The development of Siege X, which has been ongoing for around three years alongside regular seasonal updates, aims to ensure that the game remains engaging and relevant for another decade. Karpazis emphasized, "Siege X, for us, is a moment where we want to make big, meaningful changes to the game. We want to show that, yes, we're here for another 10 years, and we want to respect the people who brought us here so far."

The community's role in the game's success was also acknowledged, with Karpazis stating, "You don't get to 10 years as a live service game without the community that built you up."

Rainbow Six Siege X is slated for release on June 10, 2025, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Keep yourself updated with the latest developments by checking out our Rainbow Six Siege article below!
