Shrek 5 has unveiled its all-new cast alongside a brand-new teaser trailer, leaving even Movie Sonic puzzled by Shrek's revamped appearance.

In a humorous video posted on TikTok, the Sonic Movie account offered "advice for green ogres," playfully showcasing Movie Sonic's transformation from his much-criticized initial live-action design to the improved version revealed months later.

IGN had the exclusive first look at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie back in 2018, and the feedback was decidedly mixed, with fans particularly taken aback by the character's teeth, physique, tiny eyes, and oddly human-like fingers.

In response to the backlash, director Jeff Fowler opted to redesign the iconic character, promising a more faithful representation. The revised design was much better received.

While the response to Shrek's new look isn't as divisive as Sonic's initial live-action debut, Sonic's witty comeback has certainly entertained fans.

"You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," remarked one commenter, while another exclaimed, "No way they actually posted this" accompanied by a crying emoji.

The fifth installment of the Shrek franchise was originally announced in 2016 but remained dormant for years until Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, announced its active development in 2023, along with plans for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures has pushed back the release of Shrek 5 to December 23, 2026, and slotted Despicable 3 spin-off Minions 3 into its former release date.
