Cameras have begun rolling on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark this exciting milestone, DC Studios head James Gunn shared the first official image—a behind-the-scenes shot—of Milly Alcock as Supergirl.

In a Bluesky post, Gunn announced the commencement of filming, confirming House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, and showcasing a photo of Alcock in her director's chair. This offers a sneak peek at the character in preparation for the film.

Gunn's post also confirmed Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as the director, as previously reported. "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El," Gunn stated.

The film is heavily based on Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's acclaimed graphic novel of the same name. This standalone story follows Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl who enlists Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Nominated for a 2022 Eisner Award for "Best Limited Series," the graphic novel is a must-read for fans.

Matthias Schoenaerts is cast as Krem, with Eve Ridley portraying Ruthye. The impressive cast also includes David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, reprising his role in the DC Universe as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the second film in the new DC Universe, following James Gunn's Superman movie, slated for release this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (with its connection to Gunn's universe yet to be confirmed) and a reported Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
