Deltarune Update: Chapter 4 Nearing Completion, but Release Still Await

Toby Fox, creator of Undertale, recently shared a development update on Deltarune in his newsletter. While Chapter 4 is nearing completion, a release date for Chapters 3 and 4 (slated for simultaneous release on PC, Switch, and PS4) remains elusive.

Fox confirmed that Chapter 4's maps are complete and battles are playable, but require polishing. This includes minor cutscene improvements, battle balancing, visual enhancements, background additions, and refined ending sequences for several battles. Despite this, he considers Chapter 4 largely playable. Positive feedback from playtesters further bolsters this claim.

The multi-platform and multilingual release presents significant challenges, especially given this is the first major paid release since Undertale. Fox highlighted key tasks before launch: testing new features, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and rigorous bug testing.

Chapter 3 development is finished. Interestingly, early work on Chapter 5 has already begun, with map creation and battle design underway.

The newsletter offered glimpses of upcoming content: Ralsei and Rouxls dialogue, an Elnina character description, and a new item, GingerGuard. While the three-year wait since Chapter 2 has been frustrating for fans, the promise of Chapters 3 and 4 being longer than Chapters 1 and 2 combined fuels anticipation. Fox anticipates a smoother release schedule for future chapters following the launch of Chapters 3 and 4.
