A report from Insider Gaming reveals a complete reboot for the Alaskan extraction shooter initially codenamed Project Maverick within the Far Cry universe. Initially planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7, internal reviews led Ubisoft to significantly alter development. Despite positive employee and tester feedback, resource allocation shifted primarily to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7), ultimately ending the multiplayer component with the reassignment of the technical team. Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio specializing in development support, now oversees the project, while nearly all original developers transitioned to the next Far Cry installment.

According to insider Tom Henderson (mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 plunges players into a desperate, tension-filled world where time is the ultimate enemy. The narrative centers on the protagonist's family, kidnapped by a mysterious cult conducting horrific hallucinogen experiments on animals and children. Players must rescue their loved ones within a critical 72 in-game hours (24 real-time hours), making time management a core gameplay mechanic that intensifies the experience.

A prominent feature is an in-game wristwatch timer, constantly emphasizing the ticking clock. This adds significant pressure, demanding swift, strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 promises a unique experience where every second and choice carries substantial consequences.
