Intergalactic, new Neil Druckmann game, will be about religion and solitude

Neil Druckmann's highly anticipated Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has finally revealed some details about its intriguing setting, unveiled during a recent appearance on the Creator to Creator show. The game plunges players into an alternate future diverging from our own timeline in the late 1980s. Central to this future is a new, dominant religion that has taken root in the Intergalactic universe. Naughty Dog has invested years crafting this religion's rich lore, meticulously detailing its origins with its first prophet, and charting its evolution and subsequent distortions.

This religion's birthplace is a single, isolated planet, eventually severed from the rest of the galaxy. It's on this very planet that the protagonist crash-lands, finding herself utterly alone and facing the challenge of survival. This solitary struggle forms a core theme of the game. Unlike previous Naughty Dog titles where companions provided support and dialogue, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet emphasizes self-reliance, forcing the player to navigate the challenges and, ultimately, escape the planet independently.

Despite four years of development, a release date for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet remains elusive. For now, fans will have to patiently await further announcements.
