Nintendo and GameStop have resolved an issue where Switch 2 consoles were delivered with damaged screens due to receipts being stapled to their packaging.

Affected customers informed IGN that GameStop has started providing replacement Switch 2 units sourced from neighboring stores.

The retailer released a brief statement—later referenced by Nintendo—clarifying that only one store experienced this issue, with dozens of consoles affected.

"We've resolved an isolated incident where staples damaged Switch 2 screens at a single location," GameStop stated on social media.

"Replacements are available, and staplers have been removed," they added, humorously referencing a scene from the 1999 film Office Space where a stapler is famously confiscated.

Customers who attended the midnight launch at GameStop's Staten Island location discovered staple punctures on their Switch 2 screens after unboxing.

Some criticized the store's stapling practice, while others noted the Switch 2 packaging design—placing the console screen outward against thin cardboard—as inherently risky.

"I predicted this," commented one fan online. "Nintendo's decision to position the screen unprotected at the box's top makes it vulnerable during shipping and handling."

IGN has reached out to Nintendo and GameStop regarding potential packaging redesigns and whether other stores received warnings about stapling receipts.

"GameStop handled it well," shared one customer who received a damaged unit at launch. "They swapped it immediately—must've rushed replacements to that store."

Another satisfied customer confirmed their replacement came from redistributed stock at nearby locations.
