Pokémon TCG Pocket Dev Gifts Players Trade Tokens But Still Doesn't Have Answers to Fix Controversial Feature

Feb 19,25

Creatures Inc., the developer of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, has addressed player concerns regarding the recently implemented trading mechanic by gifting players 1,000 Trade Tokens. This is enough for only two substantial trades. The developer is actively investigating improvements to the system.

Players received the Trade Tokens silently in their in-game Gift menu. However, Creatures Inc. took to X/Twitter to acknowledge player feedback and express their gratitude for patience. The initial introduction of trading last week sparked significant backlash, with the developer facing criticism ranging from "hilariously toxic" to "downright greedy."

The trading system, alongside existing restrictions on pack openings and Wonder Picking, was met with strong disapproval due to the high cost of Trade Tokens. Players found it necessary to remove five cards from their collections to trade a single card of the same rarity.

A week after the controversial launch, Creatures Inc. acknowledged that the restrictive nature of the trading system hindered casual enjoyment. While the developer promised to address complaints by offering necessary items as rewards in future events, the recent Cresselia ex Drop Event (February 3rd) did not include any such rewards.

Many players believe the trading system's design prioritizes revenue generation for Pokémon TCG Pocket, a game estimated to have generated $200 million in its first month, before trading was even available. This suspicion is fueled by the inability to trade cards of 2-Star rarity or higher, a restriction seemingly designed to encourage in-app purchases. One player reported spending approximately $1,500 to complete the first set, highlighting the significant financial investment required. The third set launched just last week.
