Pokémon TCG Addresses Trading Concerns
Pokémon TCG Pocket's trading feature, launched last week, has faced significant player backlash, prompting developer Creatures Inc. to address concerns. A statement on X/Twitter acknowledged the negative feedback, explaining that the restrictive trading mechanics, including Trade Tokens, were intended to prevent bot abuse and maintain a fair playing environment. However, the developer admitted these restrictions inadvertently hinder casual enjoyment.
Creatures Inc. pledged to alleviate issues by distributing Trade Tokens through future events. This promise, however, has already been broken, as the February 3rd Cresselia ex Drop Event notably lacks Trade Tokens.
The trading system, already criticized for its high cost of obtaining Trade Tokens (requiring the deletion of five cards to trade one of equal rarity), is further complicated by the inability to trade 2-Star rarity cards or higher. This limitation, coupled with the existing in-app purchase mechanics restricting pack openings and Wonder Picking, fuels player accusations of a revenue-driven design.

Creatures Inc.'s statement remains vague regarding specific changes and timelines. While acknowledging player concerns, it offers no details on potential refunds or compensation for trades made under the current, heavily criticized system. The limited availability of Trade Tokens (200 offered as a premium Battle Pass reward) further underscores player frustration.
The lack of Trade Tokens in the recent Cresselia ex event directly contradicts the developer's stated intention. Players received various rewards, but the absence of Trade Tokens fuels speculation that the trading system is primarily designed to boost revenue, particularly considering the game's estimated $200 million in first-month revenue before the trading feature's release. The high cost of completing sets, with one player reporting a $1,500 expenditure, adds weight to these accusations. Player reactions have ranged from describing the mechanic as "predatory and downright greedy" to a "monumental failure."
